Chairman’s Message

The cultural heritage of India – its theatre, music, dance, painting, sculpture, architecture, etc. – is as diverse and as complex as the country itself. Documents relating to India’s rich cultural heritage are housed in various museums here and abroad. However, no Indian museum yet has the state-of-the-art facility to address every aspect of preserving it while promoting both multidisciplinary and multicultural interface.

Museums are key contributors to the well-being and to the sustainable development of our communities. It is a fact that in general our public have very little knowledge and awareness regarding the purpose or necessity of a museum. It is unfortunate that visual art in a deeper sense does not yet have much impact on the daily lives of the ordinary citizen of the country, as we like to expect. Throughout the world and in India in particular, there is a great tradition of visual arts like paintings, sculptures, architecture etc., for which we are proud. Yet it is sad to note that in comparison to the Western countries and even some of the Eastern or South Eastern Asian countries, our country is still far behind in establishing new museums, particularly museums of art.

KMOMA has been conceived as a 21st century Museum of Modern Art and a Centre of Knowledge. It will primarily be devoted to representing Visual Arts. However, Design, Architecture, Performing Arts, Cinema and Photography will also be projected.

KMOMA has made progress towards fulfilment of its goals.

The success of the project depends on the goodwill and support from all of you. May I therefore invite all art lovers to participate in fulfilling this dream project to the fullest extent.
