Collections & Curation

KMOMA plans to exhibit, as well as to collect, art representing different schools and different sources. Among others, it is planned to provide the following:

Gallery for art of the colonial period (including the Company School and European Bengal Oils), Kalighat Pats and Battala prints, Naturalistic paintings following the establishment of the Calcutta School of Art, and the Bengal School;

Gallery of art of the post-colonial period, aiming to represent all major movements of art in the country;

Gallery of international art, aiming to exhibit and collect works of merit, with one section for Western Art, and another for Far Eastern and South Asian Art.

KMOMA proposes to develop its own collection through core collection from donations from public sector institutional holdings, private donors, and donations from artists/estates. Additions to the core collection may be made from purchases funded by special endowments and individual donors.

Kolkata has a priceless collection of Western and Far Eastern art that is currently housed either in government museums or with private collectors. Many of these collections need to be housed and maintained properly. The Art Centre of KMOMA will be able to provide an ideal solution for storage, maintenance, restoration, and display of such collections, if so desired by the holders of such collections.
